John Hobson
Volunteer of the Month
July 2024
Meet John Hobson, a dedicated volunteer from Matlock, Derbyshire Dales, UK.
John finished the beta version of our ‘Route Pages’ WordPress plugin that had been started by another volunteer who became too busy to finish it.
John wasn’t as busy – other than making and playing ukuleles, long-distance cycling, off-road running including ultra-marathons, rock climbing, photography, wooden spoon carving, playing and tinkering with guitars, managing a youth football team, making music on a Nintendo Gameboy, classic car restoration, making guitar effects pedals, wildlife activism… You know: typical pastimes.
470+ Web Pages — One for Every Route
John brought the ‘Route Pages’ plugin to a beta version, currently being tested on the website of the Trufi App for Cochabamba.
The plugin shows routes available in the Trufi app as web pages, making them shareable content and helping to pick up search traffic.
These pages help with what is known as “long-tail” search engine optimization (SEO), which means targeting highly specific search queries that may have lower search volume but higher relevance to particular users. For example, if someone in Cochabamba is searching for a way to get from Plaza de Sacaba to Calle Grover Suarez, there aren’t many pages with the right answer – perhaps only one one page. And that page is one of more than 470 pages generated by the Route Pages plugin that John is continuing to work on.
Kudos to Jorge Fernando Zabala Rueda, the Bolivian volunteer developer who got the Route Pages plugin off to a great start.
