Arequipa will make history with the launch of the Arequipa Bus app, the Trufi’s first public transport app developed as the official app for a city: Arequipa, Peru.
Built on Trufi Core, the app offers comprehensive information on bus routes, stops, and schedules, providing a much-needed tool for citizens to navigate the city more efficiently. And, as always, the digitized transport data is sourced from OpenStreetMap.
This is a significant milestone, as it marks the first time a city government has formally supported a Trufi-developed app.
In other cities where Trufi apps have launched, local governments have varied in their involvement. Some have been supportive but stayed in the background, while others have been indifferent or even resistant. But Arequipa’s municipality has taken the lead in embracing digital solutions for smarter mobility.
Other Trufi apps are under development in collaboration with city governments, but Arequipa Bus opens the door for what will come.
Jhorman Zavala Rivera, the project’s communications consultant, shared his thoughts on its impact: “This is the most ambitious project I’ve worked on. The app has the potential to turn Arequipa into a smart city and benefit all public transport users.”
The app focuses on formal public transportation, and promotes accountability by enabling formal operators to be monitored, preventing route deviations and unauthorized stops.
