Trufi Association proudly congratulates our friends at AddisMapTransit on their achievement in providing a huge public transport data set for Addis Ababa to the DigitalTransport4Africa (DT4A) repository. The dataset includes information on more than 2,300 stops and 443 routes across various transportation services in Addis Ababa.
These datasets unlock countless possibilities for analyzing urban transportation patterns, optimizing route planning, and developing innovative applications.
Agraw Ali, DT4A
AddisMapTransit extracted the transport routes from OpenStreetMap (OSM) leveraging open source code developed by Trufi that converts OSM data to the open standard known as GTFS (General Transit Feed Specification).
But the OSM data wasn’t just there for the taking. With funding from DT4A Innovation Challenge AddisMapTransit mapped, remapped, and validated the data in OSM.
Mapping public transport routes accurately using OpenStreetMap (OSM) is an advanced skill and challenging to execute accurately. While it’s theoretically possible to rely on OSM volunteers (especially with the Trufi Public Transport Mapping Course), what guaranteed success of this challenge is the skill and competence of AddisMapTransit coordinating the effort.
We celebrate AddisMapTransit’s dedication to revolutionizing transportation accessibility and the contributions they continue to make.
